Investigative Journalists Uncovered a Secret War

Martin Dillon, Ed Moloney and others uncovered the dirty war which discredited the British Army in Northern Ireland. In 1969 the Irish government was consorting with gunrunners and the IRA. British Intelligence was running an amateurish spying policy. Ultimately, the British government, irrespective of Labour or Conservative leadership, was drawn into a dirty war which involved Special Branch, Military Intelligence - MI5 and MI6 which was totally uncoordinated. The role of the British Army in Northern Ireland was seriously damaged. British Intelligence groups were involved in political murders. Terrorists on both sides were involved in criminal pursuits which involved collusion in murders spanning the political and religious divide.
